Can-Am
August 3 - 5, 2007 - The 34th Can Am Rugby Tournament at Saranac, NY. We have attended the Can Am for 15 straight years. This is one of our favorite tournaments to attend because of the beautiful mountains and lakes here as well as the competitive rugby played during the weekend.
Some of finest rugby teams in the country attend this event which has about 100 teams each year. Divisions are over 50, over 45, over 40, Mens Social, Womens Social, Womens Premier and Mens Premier. Also, a Girls U19 match - Mountain Varks from Saranac vs Saratoga was played and Boys and Girls touch rugby clinics and exibitions were conducted at the tournament to help youth rugby grow in the area.
This tournament is where Bill got a lot of experience on filming rugby and where he first received the tip of using a ladder as a platform. Filming the finals matches from the Community College on Sunday is exciting because of the hill which offers great views of the championship pitches and helps to capture the enthusiasm of the crowd.
We also enjoy working with the New England Referees, NY and Met NY Referees and exchange referees from England, Scotland, and Holland. In addition, we enjoy meeting the Sarnac Mountaineers who host the tournament and attending the tournament socials around Lake Placid and Saranac. We certainly look forward to the 35th Anniversary of the Can Am next year.
Forgot to mentioned that I filmed the girls and boys rugby clinic exibition at the Community College in Saranac where the finals were played. Filmed the entire exibition ,please mention this with the matches on Sunday,Aug 5.
The Cam Am Rugby Tournament is the largest rugby tournament in North America and one of the largest in the World. Winning the Mens premier Finals is quite an accomplishment at the Can Am because the competition is fierce.

August 4-6 , 2006 - Saranac, NY - Old Blue wins their 6th straight Can Am premier finals with a hard fought victory over Brockport. E.Side Hyenas avenged last years lost to the Penn St lost lions winning the social mens finals . Beantown women take the premier womens championship while TWOTS wins the womens social finals over the Penn St Lost Lions. Youth rugby sessions were conducted at Saranac on Saturday where boys and girls ages 8 up to 14 got to learn the skills of rugby by having non-contact drills where running ,passing and rucking skills were performed. Also short matches were done during the finals at the community college. Youth rugby is growing at Saranac.
